Vivian had spent years presenting herself as the face of children’s charity.
Her portrait hung above the ballroom stage.
Her speeches praised opportunity, dignity, and equal treatment.
Yet the trust records showed that money intended for Caroline’s child had financed Vivian’s penthouse, private travel, and political donations.
The same guests who had applauded her now whispered about scandal.
Vivian turned on Ruby.
“You think a spoon and a sad story make you an Ashford?”
Grant stepped between them.
“No. Your fear does.”
Vivian insisted that Caroline’s child had died shortly after birth.
Elena answered that she had raised Ruby under her own last name because Caroline believed Vivian would come for the trust.
Ruby’s shoulders stiffened.
“My mother was scared of you until the day she died.”
For the first time, Vivian’s confidence cracked.
Grant ordered the ballroom sealed and asked the attorney to contact federal investigators.
But before anyone could leave, Vivian’s husband rose from the donor table.
