Chapter 10 - THE NIGHT MARA COULD NOT REMEMBER.

Elena admitted moving the vial after Grant dropped it near a service hallway.
She placed it beside his shoes so Mara would see it before Charles’s security team could remove it.
“I knew evidence from a hotel accountant would disappear,” she said.
Mara did not excuse the decision.
“You preserved proof, but you changed the scene and risked weakening every victim’s case.”
Elena surrendered custody decisions to an independent family court until the investigation ended.
Lily remained safe with trusted relatives.
The hotel cooperative restored pensions, rehired blacklisted workers and opened legal offices for families harmed by the placement network.
Mara accepted disciplinary review for her old signature. Marcus rebuilt contact with Rosa without demanding forgiveness. Judith testified publicly.
The black case and sealed vial were displayed behind glass.
A plaque read:
“THEY CALLED POOR FAMILIES UNSTABLE BECAUSE STOLEN CHILDREN MADE RICH FAMILIES STRONGER.”
At the reopening gala, Lily found a second memory card inside the badge wallet.
It showed Mara kneeling beside another child six years earlier.

Behind her stood Charles Holloway.
Mara had no memory of the night.
