Mara recognized the signature from paperwork she signed as a patrol officer after a housing fire.
She had been told the forms authorized emergency shelter for displaced families.
Instead, one page approved transferring children into a private care network funded by the Holloways.
Elena looked at her.
“You helped them.”
Mara did not hide behind deception.
“My signature entered the system. I will report myself and release every file attached to it.”
Commissioner Reeves called that career suicide.
Mara answered, “A badge that survives by burying children’s records is not a career worth protecting.”
The hotel workers formed a witness line so Reeves could not remove the evidence.
Grant’s father, billionaire Charles Holloway, entered with three attorneys and offered Elena two million dollars to withdraw her accusation.
Elena refused.
“You stole from families who choose between rent and medicine, then offered me money as proof everyone has a price.”
Charles turned to Lily.
“Your mother is confused.”
Lily answered, “Then why did you lock her door?”
