Commissioner Daniel Reeves arrived before Mara could call Internal Affairs.
He praised her rescue, then quietly ordered her to surrender the ledger.
“This is bigger than one family,” he said. “You do not have the rank to understand the consequences.”
Mara kept the evidence bag in sight.
“Poor mothers hear that sentence whenever powerful men need time to rewrite the facts.”
Grant claimed Elena had stolen foundation money and staged Lily’s distress. Reeves supported his version without interviewing either of them.
Hotel workers began recording.
For years, they had watched wealthy guests receive private exits while employees were searched for missing silverware.
Elena explained that the foundation paid county officials to remove children from low-income homes, then placed them with donors who controlled the children’s settlement funds.
Lily had inherited shares from her late grandfather, a hotel engineer who designed the building’s fire system.
Grant’s guardianship would transfer those shares to the Holloways.
Mara opened the ledger’s final page.
