Chapter 6 - THE OFFICER THEY STOLE FROM HIS MOTHER.

Officer Marcus Reed entered the ballroom under federal escort.
Rosa recognized him immediately, but he did not recognize her.
His adoption records had been sealed, his name changed and his childhood memories shaped by a private clinic.
Reeves had raised him as a son.
Rosa approached slowly.
“I did not abandon you. They took you after I demanded my wages.”
Marcus looked at Reeves.
“You told me she died.”
Reeves answered, “I gave you education, safety and a future.”
Rosa’s voice hardened.
“You used what you stole as proof I was unfit to provide it.”
Marcus surrendered his badge and requested independent DNA testing. He also admitted that Reeves had ordered him to monitor Mara’s investigation.
Mara did not call him innocent.
“You were manipulated, but every report you filed still affected real families.”
The test confirmed Rosa was his mother.
Then Marcus opened Reeves’s private files.
One record listed Lily’s mother as deceased, even though Elena stood alive in the room.
Another listed Mara Collins as Lily’s biological aunt.
Mara stared at Elena.

“I have never met your family.”
Elena whispered, “Your mother did.”
