Adelaide revealed she had given birth to a daughter before marrying into the Mercer family. The child was raised by estate workers after Adelaide’s father threatened to disinherit her for loving a Black groundskeeper.
That daughter later became Elena’s grandmother.
Elena was not a Mercer heir through romance or biology alone. Her family connected both sides of the original worker trust—the labor that financed the estate and the daughter the old-money family erased.
The council still refused to make her sole owner.
“No one should rule because a hidden bloodline finally became useful,” Elena said.
The mansion became worker-owned housing, an elder-rights clinic and a public labor archive. Vivian and Richard lost control and faced prosecution. Adrian funded restitution from personal assets and earned no automatic board seat. Elena rebuilt her life without being required to forgive him quickly.

During the opening, Mr. Hale found a fresh phone recording inside the hidden passage.
