The sale would replace the staff cottages with a private golf retreat. Forty-two retired workers had ten days to leave.
Vivian called the project necessary to preserve the Mercer name.
Rosa answered, “Your name survives because our families kept polishing it.”
Adelaide invoked the trust’s emergency clause and froze the transaction. Vivian insisted she lacked capacity. A private physician had declared her incompetent after one ten-minute examination.
The doctor arrived and claimed Adelaide suffered severe confusion.
She recited every account number, trustee name and property boundary from memory.
Then Elena removed a notebook hidden inside her brush handle. It listed the pills delivered to Adelaide and the dates Vivian ordered extra doses before legal meetings.
Elena admitted replacing one dose with water.
Vivian pointed at her.
“She tampered with medical care.”
Elena replied, “I preserved evidence because no one believed a woman wearing an apron.”
