Chapter 1 - THE RECORDING THEY ORDERED DELETED.
Helen Carter entered the Ashford dining room and saw her daughter struggling to lift a serving bowl with one arm in a sling.
Miriam Ashford sipped wine.
“My son finally taught her what an obedient wife looks like.”
Garrick smiled. “She knows the rules now.”
Helen placed her handbag by the door.
“What happened to her arm?”
Sienna looked at her husband instead of answering.
“She fell,” Garrick said. “Do not make it dramatic.”
Helen sat beside Sienna, took her cold hand and quietly contacted Dr. Chen. When Garrick ordered Sienna to repeat his story, Helen said, “You are safe to tell the truth.”
Sienna’s voice shook.
“I did not fall.”
The doorbell rang. Commissioner Raymond Fletcher entered with Dr. Chen and two Ashford board members.
“Mr. Ashford, step away from your wife.”
A board member raised a sealed folder.
“We recovered the security recording your family ordered deleted.”

The first image showed Miriam locking the dining-room doors while Garrick approached Sienna.
