Chapter 6 - THE SERVER WHO SAVED THE EVIDENCE.

Emergency power restored the chandelier within seconds, but the sealed folder had vanished from the table.
No one had entered or left.
Rosa pointed toward the service corridor.
“The household cameras cover every door except the passage staff are ordered to use.”
Miriam smiled faintly.
“You are accusing servants now?”
Helen replied, “No. I am asking why your family hides the routes used by people you consider invisible.”
A young server named Malik Grant returned carrying the folder. He had taken it before the blackout after overhearing a security officer planning to destroy it.
Garrick accused him of theft.
Malik placed the folder before Fletcher.
“When a rich man removes evidence, it is discretion. When I preserve it, it becomes stealing.”
The recovered documents tied Ashford Development to unsafe worker housing, unpaid overtime and coercive settlements. Families injured on company sites were pressured to accept money in exchange for silence.
One settlement concerned Malik’s mother, who died after a construction-site fire.
The approving prosecutor had been Helen Carter.

Helen stared at her old signature.
She had helped the Ashfords once.
