Chapter 1 - THE RING IN THE REFLECTION.
Victor kept the wine below his lips as Elena steadied his wrist.
“What did you see?”
“A hand opened the decanter. I recorded it.”
Camille shoved between them. “You are a waitress. Take your hand off him and get out.”
Elena released Victor. He placed the untouched glass on the table. When Camille grabbed her forearm, Elena pulled free and slapped her once across the cheek.
“His life matters more than your pride.”
She opened the video. A pale tablet dropped into the black glass decanter. The face was hidden, but its curved surface had caught a reflection.
Victor ordered the chandelier glare removed. Elena adjusted the image.
A silver cufflink emerged—the Hawthorne family crest, issued only to Victor and his two sons.
Camille’s anger collapsed.
“You do not understand what that reflection will expose.”

The hand belonged to a man wearing Victor’s own wedding ring.
