THE WINE SHE STOPPED / Chapter 9 / 10

Chapter 9 - THE RING ELENA MADE.

Margaret revealed that Rosa transferred her house temporarily to create an address outside Hawthorne control. The plan was to protect evidence until federal investigators arrived.

But Margaret delayed disclosure, hoping to preserve the foundation and family name. During that delay, Rosa became ill, was declared incompetent and never recovered her property.

Elena’s grief sharpened.

“You used a poor woman’s house as camouflage, then protected your strategy while she died without it.”

Margaret surrendered her foundation rights and requested criminal review.

Victor faced acquisitions approved without examining how elderly owners lost capacity. Camille faced gala funds traced to resident accounts. Daniel and Julian faced conspiracy inquiries.

Then investigators identified the reflected hand.

The ring had been copied from a mold inside Margaret’s private safe.

Only one person accessed it that week.

The photograph showed Elena.

Victor looked across the untouched wine.

“Why did you make the ring?”

Elena answered, “Because I needed the family to accuse itself before it blamed another waitress.”
