THE WINE SHE STOPPED / Chapter 4 / 10

Chapter 4 - THE DOCTOR WHO TRIED TO LEAVE.

Dr. Malcolm Reed was stopped before leaving the mansion.

He called Rosa’s diagnosis justified and Elena a disgruntled former pharmacy aide. Elena admitted working at Briarwood until she photographed unprescribed sedatives in residents’ drawers.

“They fired me for violating privacy,” she said. “They kept the people violating patients.”

Malcolm claimed the tablets only reduced anxiety.

Victor answered, “Then why hide one in my wine?”

Security recovered messages between Malcolm and Julian discussing a “clean transition” after Victor’s incapacity ruling. Julian said it meant corporate succession, not drugging.

Camille showed that Julian had asked her to keep Victor at the table until dessert.

“You said he was announcing our foundation appointment.”

Then the tablet was traced to a private formula owned by Hawthorne Biologics.

Victor turned toward his older son, Daniel, the company’s chief executive.

Daniel had not attended dinner.

His seat was still set—and beneath his plate lay Elena’s missing employee badge.
