Chapter 3 - THE HOUSE TAKEN UNDER MEDICATION.

The Briarwood file claimed Victor had memory loss and needed financial supervision.
Victor had never spent a night there.
Someone had used his medical history to prepare an incapacity petition that would activate after dinner. The proposed guardian was Julian. The backup was Camille.
Julian denied knowing anything. Camille admitted signing the form but said Victor’s attorney called it an emergency directive.
Elena did not excuse her.
“You had private counsel and weeks to ask questions. My mother signed after they withheld her medication.”
Victor ordered every Hawthorne signature reviewed.
Rosa Alvarez had worked thirty-four years in the mansion. Briarwood declared her incompetent two days after she challenged missing pension payments. Her house was later sold to a Hawthorne development company.
Victor whispered, “I approved that acquisition.”
Elena’s eyes hardened.
“And tonight someone planned to show you how easily approval becomes theft.”

A guest moved toward the door.
Elena recognized the doctor who declared Rosa incompetent.
