Chapter 5 - THE REPORT NORA SIGNED FOR A ROOF.
Nora admitted signing Thomas Vale’s capacity report eight years earlier.
She had been a junior legal aide, supporting Lily alone and facing eviction. Judge Cross told her Thomas was dangerous and promised a permanent job if she certified the prepared findings.
“I met him for twelve minutes,” Nora said. “I chose the report that kept a roof over my child.”
Rosa’s disappointment was quiet.
“Your fear was real. So was the door that closed on him.”
Nora placed her legal license under review and refused control of the investigation.
Victoria smiled as though one compromised signature made every crime equal.
Adrian stopped her.
“She admitted what she did. You built a system that required people to be desperate.”
Thomas’s records revealed he had not been confused. He had discovered the foundation’s property scheme and amended his will to return seized homes.
Three days later, Victoria moved him to a private facility. Adrian had been told his father chose isolation.
Lily found a photograph inside the file.
