Chapter 2 - THE ELEVEN MINUTES THEY ERASED.

The estate physician confirmed that Emma was breathing steadily, but her condition did not match Daniel’s story of a simple fall.

Robert ordered security to open the sunroom archive.

The recording showed Emma entering with a blue folder, followed by Daniel and Claire.

Then the screen went black for exactly eleven minutes.

When the picture returned, Emma was already on the rug.

Daniel claimed the camera had malfunctioned.

The security director disagreed.

“Someone deleted the footage from inside the house.”

Claire reminded him who paid his salary.

Emma stirred in the pickup and whispered one broken sentence.

“Don’t let them burn Grace’s papers.”

Grace had been Emma’s mother and the Whitmore family’s housekeeper for twenty-eight years.

Claire laughed.

“A maid left papers, and now we are supposed to panic?”

Robert remembered Grace carrying boxes from his first office when no bank would lend him money.

He turned toward Daniel.

“What was in the blue folder?”

Daniel said nothing.
