Chapter 7 - THE BOARD THAT JUDGED HER CLOTHES.
The board members entered in tailored suits while the employees were ordered to wait near the service hall.
Claire presented Robert as an aging founder manipulated by Emma, a working-class opportunist trying to seize the estate.
Several directors accepted the story before Emma spoke.
One asked whether she had attended college.
Another questioned whether a housekeeper’s daughter understood corporate law.
Emma placed Grace’s deed on the table.
“I understand a stolen signature.”
Robert demanded a vote to suspend Daniel and Claire.
The directors refused because Daniel’s allies controlled the proxies.
Then Luis opened the sunroom doors.
Dozens of workers stood outside holding copies of ownership agreements their families had preserved.
They had never been invited to a board meeting, although their labor had built every property on the company map.
The accountant announced that the disputed employee shares represented thirty-four percent of the corporation.
Grace’s share represented another twenty.
Together, the workers and Emma held control.
Claire called the papers fake.
A county clerk entered behind the investigators carrying the original recording book.
