Chapter 6 - THE SON WHO CALLED HER DRAMATIC.

Daniel insisted he had known Emma was alive.

He said calling for help would have created a scandal before the estate’s largest fundraising dinner.

Robert stared at the son he had trained to protect the family name at any cost.

Daniel blamed him.

“You taught me that reputation keeps thousands employed.”

A kitchen worker answered from the doorway.

“No. Our work keeps thousands employed.”

One by one, employees described what Daniel had done behind the mansion’s polished doors.

A pregnant housekeeper had been fired for requesting lighter duties.

A driver lost his pension after reporting unsafe vehicles.

Scholarship children were photographed for charity brochures but forbidden from using the estate pool.

Claire called the stories emotional exaggerations.

Emma slowly entered the sunroom with the physician beside her.

She was pale but standing.

“You called me dramatic because it made my pain convenient to ignore.”

Robert ordered the family accounts frozen and contacted state investigators.

Claire’s expression remained strangely calm.

She told Robert he no longer controlled the company.

Three months earlier, Daniel had persuaded the board to transfer emergency authority to her.

Then black SUVs appeared beyond the arched doors.

May you like

Claire smiled.

“The board came to remove you.”
