Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT GRACE WAS LEFT OUTSIDE.

State investigators separated the board members and began taking statements.
Robert asked Emma what Daniel had meant about Grace’s death.
Emma played an old voicemail saved on her mother’s phone.
Grace’s weak voice said she had confronted Claire about the forged deeds during a winter gala.
Security was ordered to escort her through the service exit despite freezing weather.
She collapsed near the staff parking lot.
A guard called for an ambulance, but Daniel canceled the request, claiming a family car would take her privately.
No car came for forty minutes.
Grace died at the hospital that night.
Claire said the delay was unfortunate but unrelated.
The former guard stepped forward.
He had kept the radio log because Daniel later fired him.
The recording captured Claire’s voice.
“Do not bring a sick maid through the front drive while donors are arriving.”
Robert closed his eyes.
His empire had protected chandeliers, carpets, and wealthy guests before protecting the woman who helped create it.
Daniel was placed in handcuffs for evidence tampering and obstruction.
Before investigators took him away, he looked at Emma.
“Ask Robert why Grace needed money in the first place.”

Robert’s face changed.
Emma realized he had hidden something too.
