Chapter 9 - THE DEBT ROBERT NEVER PAID.

Robert admitted that Grace’s original loan came from a settlement she received after his first company damaged homes in her working-class neighborhood.

He promised to repair them but used most of the insurance money to save his failing business.

Grace accepted shares because she believed the company’s success would eventually repay every family.

Robert became wealthy.

The neighborhood remained poor.

He had not forged the later deeds, but his silence and ambition created the system Claire and Daniel exploited.

Emma could have destroyed him publicly.

Instead, she demanded that he testify, surrender control, and place his fortune into restitution.

At the emergency hearing, wealthy directors called the workers greedy.

Luis answered that asking for stolen property back was not greed.

The judge restored the disputed voting rights pending trial.

Emma and the employee group immediately removed Claire and Daniel from leadership.

Claire lost her estate access, private accounts, and foundation title before the same staff she once insulted.

As officers escorted her toward the service door, Emma stopped them.

“No. She leaves through the front, where everyone can see.”

Then the accountant opened one final ledger.

Seventeen low-income neighborhoods had lost land through the same scheme.
