Chapter 2 - THE CRIME PREPARED IN HER NAME.

Maya remained on the rug while paramedics checked her. Evelyn watched from the balcony with the calm of someone seeing a trap close exactly as planned.
The detective displayed bank statements bearing Maya’s signature.
Six million dollars had moved from the Vale Family Trust into three accounts connected to her late father’s construction company.
Adam stared at the documents.
“Maya, tell me you have never seen these.”
“I have never seen them.”
Evelyn descended the staircase slowly.
“Of course she denies it. Women like her always confuse access with ownership.”
Maya looked up.
“Women like me?”
Evelyn smiled.
“Women raised around overdue bills, borrowed cars, and parents who work with their hands. You see wealth and call your hunger justice.”
Adam stepped between them.
“She sent evidence showing you stole employee housing funds.”
Evelyn turned toward the officers.
“And now you see why she invented that story. She needed to accuse me before we discovered her theft.”
The forged transfers had been authorized from Maya’s work computer. Security logs placed her inside the estate office after midnight.
But Maya had been attending a charity dinner across town at that hour.
One witness, Nora, handed the detective a staff entrance log proving it.
Evelyn laughed.
“A housekeeper’s notebook is not evidence.”
Nora’s expression hardened.
“No. But the camera inside your private elevator is.”
The footage showed Evelyn entering Maya’s office with a copied key.

She was not alone.
Adam’s signature appeared on the access request.
