Chapter 6 - THE DEATH THAT PROTECTED THE FAMILY.
Arthur Vale had begun reviewing the employee trust shortly before his death.
According to the family, he became ill during a late meeting and collapsed alone.
Rafael’s note described an argument near the library staircase.
Arthur wanted to restore the employee shares.
Evelyn wanted to sell the mansion to a development company controlled by her brother.
One of the former workers, a driver named Samuel, had witnessed Arthur fall after Evelyn grabbed the folder in his hands.
Evelyn called the account a fantasy.
“Dead employees cannot testify.”
Nora looked directly at her.
“Samuel is not dead.”
He had been one of the seven workers declared mentally unfit.
Police found him in the same facility as Rafael, living under a false name.
Evelyn’s lawyers had converted witnesses into patients and called their memories symptoms.
Adam’s anger turned toward himself.
“I signed donations to that facility every year.”
Maya did not let him hide inside guilt.
“You posed beside checks while men were locked in rooms your money maintained.”
Evelyn accused Maya of turning Adam against his own blood.
Maya answered, “Truth does not destroy families. It only stops pretending abuse is loyalty.”
Then the private residence called the mansion.
Rafael and Samuel were gone.
Security footage showed a black Vale company vehicle removing both men thirty minutes before the police arrived.
The driver was Evelyn’s brother, Charles.
