Chapter 1 - THE TICKET THAT WASN’T FOR THE BRIDE.
Maya blocked the path to Gate 12 with baby Lucas safe against her chest.
“Tell your bride who this baby belongs to.”
Ethan Lawson stopped beside his champagne suitcase. Claire Whitmore’s confidence vanished when Maya held up the birth certificate bearing Ethan’s name.
“You had no right to bring him here,” Ethan said.
Claire stared at him. “You told me you had no children.”
Maya’s voice stayed controlled. “He promised our son he would come home. He married you instead.”
Ethan asked for one chance to explain. Maya turned Lucas toward her shoulder.
“Explain why you signed his birth certificate, then reported me as an unstable employee.”
Claire opened Ethan’s burgundy passport. A folded boarding document slipped into her hand.
“This ticket was never meant for me.”

It listed Ethan and Lucas on a one-way flight to Richmond, Virginia. Attached was an emergency custody order authorizing Ethan to remove the baby before Maya received notice.
The approving witness was Claire’s father, Chairman James Whitmore.
