Chapter 3 - THE WEALTHY STEPMOTHER THEY CREATED ON PAPER.

Claire remembered signing a stack of honeymoon insurance forms while her mother directed photographers and Ethan answered calls.
One hidden page described Claire as Lucas’s intended stepmother and a stabilizing influence in Ethan’s household.
“They used me to make taking your child look respectable,” she said.
Maya replied, “They believed a wealthy bride would sound safer than a working mother before either woman spoke.”
Ethan insisted he planned to return Lucas after a trust hearing in Richmond.
Claire asked what trust required a baby to cross state lines without his mother.
A corporate attorney arrived from the first-class lounge and demanded the documents. Claire refused to surrender them.
The attorney finally explained that Lawson Aviation had been saved twenty years earlier by wage concessions from mechanics, cleaners, gate agents and baggage crews. Their employee trust still held thirty-one percent of the company.
Maya’s late mother had controlled the deciding vote.
Lucas was now the youngest beneficiary.
If Ethan gained custody, he could vote the child’s shares.
