Chapter 5 - THE MOTHER HIDDEN BEHIND THE RUNWAY.
Rosa was found inside an unused union office overlooking the runway. She was older, frightened and carrying the original employee ledger.
Maya did not rush into her arms.
“You let me believe you were dead.”
Rosa said Lawson executives threatened to prosecute Maya for theft if she returned. James Whitmore helped place her in witness protection, then used her silence to negotiate the merger.
Claire faced her father by video.
“You protected one witness by letting her daughter live inside a lie.”
James replied that public disclosure would have collapsed the airline.
Rosa looked at the workers outside the office.
“Poor families lost homes while wealthy families waited for the truth to become profitable.”
The ledger proved employee money financed the private terminal, executive pensions and Claire’s wedding flight.
Claire removed her diamond ring but refused to pretend that gesture repaid anyone.
Then Rosa played an audio recording.

Claire whispered, “My mother arranged all of this.”
