Maya’s mother, Rosa Reyes, had supervised baggage operations during the airline’s bankruptcy. Workers surrendered overtime, pensions and raises after executives promised them stock.

When profits returned, the Lawson family called the agreement a temporary rescue plan.

Claire looked through the glass wall at ramp crews loading luggage beneath the aircraft.

“They saved the airline from the ground while our families took credit from the boardroom.”

Ethan said the merger would protect thousands of jobs.

Maya answered, “You create desperation, take what workers surrender, then threaten their jobs when they ask for repayment.”

The trust appointed Rosa’s descendants as custodians because she preserved the original payroll records. After Rosa supposedly died, Maya inherited the vote. Lucas became successor beneficiary at birth.

Ethan’s custody petition would have transferred practical control to him before the merger closed.

Then a gate agent checked the terminal entry log.

Rosa Reyes’s employee badge had been used twenty minutes earlier.
