Chapter 10 - THE FUNERAL THAT FAILED

Richard did not return to the mansion first.
He went to court.
Private hearing.
Independent counsel.
Medical verification.
Live testimony.
No rumor.
No family control.
Evidence.
The death certificate was challenged.
The trust was frozen.
The company transfers were suspended.
The guardianship petition collapsed.
Victoria admitted she had been lied to about her identity.
Arthur surrendered every document he had hidden.
Edward lost control before Noah’s eighteenth birthday.
And Noah?
He never apologized for breaking the casket.
He should not have.
That coffin had been built to bury a lie.
Instead, he opened it.
Twelve days later, Noah turned eighteen.
Richard came home.
Not to a ballroom.
Not to cameras.
Not to a crowd.
Just to the mansion gates.
Noah stood there waiting.
For one second, neither moved.
Then Richard said,
“I’m sorry.”
Noah’s eyes filled.
“You should be.”
No instant forgiveness.
Good.
Some wounds deserve honesty before healing.
Richard nodded.
“I should have found another way.”
Noah answered,
“But you didn’t leave me.”
Richard shook his head.
“Never.”
Then Noah stepped forward.
And hugged his father.
Behind them, Daniel watched quietly.
Victoria had left the estate.
Edward faced investigation.
The false funeral photographs were taken down.
The white casket was never repaired.
Noah asked that it remain exactly as it was.
Broken.
Empty.
Open.
A reminder.
Because the most powerful person in that family had almost succeeded in making everyone mourn a man who was still alive.
But he had underestimated one thing.
A grieving boy who remembered his father’s voice.
A phone call after death.
A hotel room.
A hidden trust.
And one sentence Noah refused to forget.
Open it.
May you like
So he did.
And when the casket broke open, so did the entire family lie.
