Chapter 9 - THE MAN IN THE SECOND RECORDING

The storage locker contained one camera.

One coat.

One key.

And one video.

Noah pressed play.

Richard appeared.

Alive.

Three days after his reported death.

Noah stopped breathing.

His father looked exhausted.

But clear.

He spoke directly to the camera.

“Noah, I’m alive.”

The boy covered his mouth.

Daniel looked away.

Richard continued.

“I escaped the clinic.”

Edward closed his eyes.

Too late.

“I cannot come home yet.”

“Someone inside the family still has access to every account, vehicle, and security system I use.”

Noah stared at the screen.

Richard held up a photograph.

Edward.

Victoria.

Arthur.

Daniel.

All four.

Then he crossed out Edward’s face.

Not because Edward was innocent.

Because Richard already knew about him.

He crossed out Victoria too.

Then Arthur.

One face remained.

Daniel.

The room froze.

Daniel went pale.

Noah slowly turned toward him.

Richard’s voice continued.

“I don’t know whether Daniel is helping them.”

Daniel stopped breathing.

“But I know his credentials were used.”

Arthur looked at him.

Daniel shook his head.

“I didn’t.”

Richard continued.

“If Daniel says he didn’t, believe the evidence before the accusation.”

Noah looked back at the screen.

Richard had known even this.

The family weaponized suspicion.

Every accusation became another way to divide them.

Then Richard said,

“The credentials were copied.”

A pause.

“By the person who handled Daniel’s father’s estate.”

Everyone turned toward Arthur.

Arthur went still.

Too late.

Richard continued.

“But Arthur wasn’t acting alone.”

The room changed.

Arthur closed his eyes.

Noah stared at him.

“Who?”

Arthur finally answered.

“My daughter.”

Silence.

No one knew Arthur had a daughter.

Then the storage door opened behind them.

A woman stood there.

Dark coat.

Silver ring.

And the exact same hotel key card found inside the funeral casket.

She looked at Noah.

Then said,

“Your father sent me.”

Noah froze.

“Where is he?”

The woman answered,

“Alive.”

The room stopped.

Then she looked at Edward.

“And ready to testify.”
