Chapter 8 - THE CASKET WAS NEVER MEANT TO HOLD A BODY

They returned to the funeral hall.

The chandelier was still lit.

White flowers still surrounded the broken casket.

The mourners were gone.

Only family remained.

Noah approached slowly.

No hammer now.

No shouting.

Just certainty.

Arthur examined the shattered lid.

Then the velvet lining.

Behind it was a hidden compartment.

Inside was a sealed metal box.

Edward went pale.

Too late.

Daniel opened it.

The original Hale Family Trust.

Richard’s handwritten statement.

And one sealed letter for Noah.

The trust was clear.

If Richard disappeared under suspicious circumstances, company control froze.

No spouse.

No guardian.

No parent.

No board member could transfer shares until Richard’s status was independently verified.

Edward had spent weeks arranging a funeral.

But the funeral itself activated the clause that stopped him.

Noah looked at his grandfather.

“You buried your own plan.”

Silence.

Daniel almost smiled.

Not with humor.

With recognition.

The casket had not been empty.

It had been evidence.

Arthur read further.

Richard had named one emergency trustee.

Not Daniel.

Not Edward.

Not Victoria.

Noah.

Upon reaching eighteen.

Until then, independent counsel would protect the shares.

Noah was seventeen.

His birthday was in twelve days.

Edward stopped breathing.

That was why everything had happened now.

The fake death.

The false funeral.

The guardianship papers.

They were racing the birthday.

Noah looked at him.

“You had twelve days left.”

Edward said nothing.

Enough.

Then Noah opened his father’s letter.

One line made him collapse into tears.

I knew you would ask them to open the casket. You were always the only one stubborn enough to break the lie.

Daniel put one hand on his shoulder.

This time, Noah did not pull away.

Then he kept reading.

At the bottom was one final instruction.

Do not believe I am dead until you see the second hotel recording.

The room froze.

Arthur looked up.

“Second recording?”

Noah turned the page.

A location.

A private storage locker.

And a date.

Three days after Richard supposedly died.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Edward looked toward the exit.

Too late.

May you like

Because Richard had left one final piece of evidence.

Proof recorded after the date on his own death certificate.
