Chapter 3 - ROOM 417
The hotel manager opened Room 417 with two witnesses present.
Daniel.
Noah.
Victoria.
And the family attorney, Arthur Hayes.
The room looked untouched.
One bed.
One lamp.
One window overlooking the city.
No luggage.
No man.
No answers.
Then Noah went straight to the floorboard beneath the desk.
Victoria froze.
That was the third crack.
Daniel noticed.
“How did he know where to look?”
Noah answered.
“My dad told me.”
He lifted the loose board.
Underneath was a sealed black envelope.
And one flash drive.
Arthur opened the envelope.
Inside were three documents.
A draft resignation letter.
A temporary incapacity filing.
And a transfer of voting control.
All in Noah’s father’s name.
Daniel stared at the signature.
“I know this signature.”
Noah looked at him.
“Is it real?”
Daniel said nothing.
Then shook his head.
“No.”
The room changed.
Victoria looked toward the door.
Wrong move.
Arthur plugged in the flash drive.
One video appeared.
Timestamped three days before the reported death.
Noah’s father sat in that exact hotel room.
Alive.
Tired.
Angry.
He looked into the camera.
“My name is Richard Hale.”
Noah started crying.
But he did not look away.
Richard continued.
“If this video is being watched, someone has already tried to erase me.”
Victoria closed her eyes.
Too late.
Richard held up a document.
“I did not resign.”
Then another.
“I did not authorize Victoria Cross to control my shares.”
Daniel looked at her.
She said nothing.
Richard continued.
“And Daniel…”
Daniel went still.
“If they use your signature, check the second page.”
Arthur immediately opened the transfer document.
Second page.
Daniel’s signature was there.
He went pale.
“I never signed that.”
Noah looked at him.
“Then who did?”
The video answered.
Richard leaned closer to the camera.
“Ask the person who had access to both our signatures.”
Silence.
Then he said the name.
“Arthur.”
The room froze.
Every head turned toward the family attorney.
