Chapter 6 - THE WOMEN THEY MARKED FOR POVERTY.
Elena Alvarez was found working under another name at a Vale resort in Virginia.
She had been arrested for stealing jewelry after security found fluorescent marker on her hands. The charge destroyed her nursing scholarship and forced her into hotel debt.
Eleanor called the case old and legally settled.
Rosa stared at her.
“Poor women carry one accusation forever. Wealthy families call twelve ruined lives an old matter.”
Elena explained that staff were offered housing only if they signed contracts surrendering wage claims and agreeing to private arbitration.
Adrian had approved the housing program.
He said advisers told him it was employee assistance.
Claire answered, “You accepted praise for helping workers but never read what help cost them.”
The council froze all employee contracts and reopened every theft case.
Then Maria produced security footage from the night she was confined.
Thomas escorted her into the clinic.
Eleanor followed.
But the person carrying the black spray was Rosa.
