Eleanor laughed bitterly.
“Employees were paid. They did not purchase our family history.”
Victoria looked at the shattered table.
“Their missing wages purchased the room where you expected no one to believe me.”
Daniel ordered an independent audit. He refused Eleanor’s demand to keep the matter private, but Victoria reminded him that privacy had protected his family for years.
The ledger showed millions moved from the worker trust into renovations, board bonuses and Madison’s engagement celebration.
Madison stared at the white satin dress she had worn for the announcement.
“My party was paid with their pensions?”
