Chapter 4 - THE ACCUSATION WRITTEN BEFORE THE FALL.
Madison claimed she signed a general security statement, not an accusation.
Her attorney produced the form. It described Victoria as unstable, jealous and physically aggressive. It also predicted that she would “cause a scene near the dining table.”
Victoria’s voice remained controlled.
“You wrote my character before I entered the room.”
Madison looked toward Eleanor.
“You told me she had threatened the family.”
Eleanor admitted preparing the complaint but said Madison signed voluntarily.
Gloria answered, “Poor people sign one page under pressure and lose homes. Rich people sign a lie and call themselves manipulated.”
The employee council froze all Ashford transfers and suspended Eleanor from the family foundation.
Daniel then examined the refinancing package tied to the mansion. He had signed it two years earlier, allowing the bank to use worker-owned property as collateral.
“I was told the trust had expired,” he said.
Victoria did not comfort him.

The bank officer who certified the expired trust was Madison’s father, Charles Hale.
