Chapter 5 - THE MOTHER WHO SIGNED UNDER THREAT.
Sophie’s mother, Emily, had signed the maintenance order after Margaret threatened to fire every worker living in company housing.
Emily believed the elevator would be closed for inspection.
Instead, Adrian delayed repairs while Thomas entered the shaft.
Margaret blamed Emily.
“She chose to sign.”
Claire answered, “You create desperation, then call the desperate person guilty for surviving it.”
Emily supposedly died two years later after being declared unstable during a custody dispute.
The same judge at the wedding sealed her testimony.
Sophie began crying.
“Mom did not leave me?”
Claire held her tightly.
“No. They took her voice and called it abandonment.”
Agents searched a private clinic owned by the foundation.
They found Emily alive under another name.
