Dr. Hayes admitted sedating Thomas after the fall and preventing him from contacting police.
Margaret promised to fund Claire’s education and protect the family’s medical practice.
Claire’s voice shook.
“You paid for my future with another family’s silence.”
Her father answered, “I believed I was saving you from the life your mother came from.”
Claire’s mother, a former hotel housekeeper, stared at him.
“You were ashamed of my work, so you helped them destroy the man who defended workers like me.”
Dr. Hayes surrendered his license and agreed to testify.
The court refused to excuse him because Margaret controlled his career.
The ballroom became a public hearing hall where workers described stolen pensions and ruined homes.
Then Emily presented Thomas’s final recording.
He said the elevator failure was not ordered by Margaret.
The person who disabled the safety system was Sophie’s mother.
