Chapter 1 - THE CHILD RUNNING FROM HER OWN HOME.

Lily ran across the marble foyer clutching her floral bag as though it contained the last safe thing she owned.
“Daddy… she said I don’t belong here!”
Claire stood beneath the staircase in her wedding gown, pointing toward the front doors.
“She is not staying in my house after the wedding!”
Ethan descended one step at a time, his joy turning into controlled fury.
“What did you just say to my daughter?”
Claire lifted her chin.
“She needs discipline. Her mother raised her without standards, and you keep rewarding every tear because you feel guilty.”
Ethan reached the bottom step.
“This is her home. You are the one leaving.”
Claire gasped.
“And this wedding is over.”
Then Lily’s bag slipped open. A cream envelope fell onto the floor.

Across the front, in her late mother’s handwriting, were the words:
“Ethan—open this only if Claire tries to remove Lily.”
