Chapter 4 - THE HOUSE BUILT ON A MAID’S SAVINGS.
Anna’s grandmother, Evelyn Brooks, had worked as the mansion’s estate manager for thirty-four years.
When Ethan’s grandfather nearly lost the property, Evelyn used her savings and organized employee contributions to pay the taxes and repairs.
In exchange, she received a protected ownership share.
The family continued introducing her as “the housekeeper.”
Margaret dismissed the agreement.
“She was compensated for service. That did not make her equal.”
Rosa, the current housekeeper, stepped out from the ballroom.
“She paid the debt while your family posed for portraits.”
Claire pointed at her.
“Return to the kitchen.”
Rosa did not move.
“You made a five-year-old run from the house her great-grandmother saved. I am exactly where I belong.”
The trust stated that Lily must remain a resident until age eighteen. If she were voluntarily removed, the controlling share would pass to Ethan’s spouse.
Claire had not been disciplining Lily.
She had been creating a legal transfer.
Then Rosa revealed the foyer camera had recorded Claire’s entire conversation with the child.
