Chapter 8 - THE FILE HIDDEN INSIDE THE WEDDING CAKE.
Claire denied knowing where the second file was.
Lily pointed toward the ballroom.
“Mom said weddings hide things because everyone watches the bride.”
Rosa remembered Anna once requesting that a sealed metal box be stored with the family’s ceremonial silver.
The box had been placed beneath the cake table as part of the wedding display.
Inside were pension ledgers, medical correspondence and the original mansion deed.
The records proved Margaret had diverted employee retirement funds to finance renovations and Claire’s engagement party.
Claire stared at the chandeliers.
“You cannot expose this tonight. Hundreds of people depend on the family business.”
Rosa answered, “You stole from workers, then used their jobs as body armor.”
Ethan froze every family account and called independent counsel.
Claire’s confidence collapsed.
“You will regret humiliating me in front of these people.”
Ethan looked at Lily.
“You humiliated a child because you thought these people mattered more.”
Then the attorney opened Anna’s second file.
