Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN ANNA FEARED AT THE HOSPITAL.
Anna’s recording named Dr. Caroline Vale, Claire’s older sister and the physician who managed her final care.
Anna believed Caroline altered medical notes to describe her as confused whenever she questioned Lily’s trust.
Claire shouted that the accusation was impossible.
“My sister gave Anna excellent treatment.”
Rosa answered, “Excellent treatment should not require forged signatures.”
Ethan found copies of Anna’s hospital records inside the phone. Several consent forms carried his electronic approval.
He recognized the signature.
“I signed insurance papers.”
Lily looked up at him.
“You didn’t read them?”
Ethan could not hide behind grief.
“No.”
Rosa’s reply was quiet but severe.
“Poor families read every line because one mistake costs a home. Rich families sign blindly because someone else absorbs the damage.”
The altered forms transferred Anna’s medical decision-making authority to Margaret.
Caroline had then blocked Anna’s calls to lawyers.
The final hospital entry showed Anna requested an independent examination.
It never happened.
Then a recent message appeared on the phone.
