Chapter 9 - THE HUSBAND WAITING OUTSIDE.

Claire’s husband, Nathan Pierce, had never divorced her.
He was the financial consultant who designed the guardianship transfer and the employee-pension diversions.
Their marriage remained active under another state filing.
The engagement to Ethan had been a contract disguised as romance.
Nathan was waiting in a car outside the mansion with forged documents transferring Lily’s shares.
Police stopped him before he reached the gate.
Claire blamed Margaret.
“She promised the Hale family would protect us.”
Margaret blamed Claire.
“You were paid to control the situation, not expose us.”
Their alliance collapsed the moment wealth could no longer protect both women.
The wedding was canceled. The trust transfer was voided. Margaret and Claire lost all authority over Lily and the estate.
At the hearing, Claire claimed Ethan had turned the child against her.
Lily answered softly:
“He didn’t tell me to leave. You did.”
The judge froze the mansion and employee funds.
Then Nathan surrendered one final document.
