Chapter 8 - THE MAN WHO OFFERED FIFTY DOLLARS.

The ballroom erupted in whispers, but Emma kept Lily beside her and refused to let guests turn the child into entertainment.
The sealed DNA report identified Lily’s biological father as Nathan Cole, Emma’s former supervisor at the hospital cafeteria.
Nathan had attended the ceremony with his wife and two children.
He admitted the relationship but said Emma had told him the baby was Grant’s.
Emma stared at him.
“I told you I was pregnant. You offered me fifty dollars and changed my schedule.”
Nathan’s wife stepped away from him.
Grant had learned the truth and agreed to sign the birth certificate because paternity gave him access to the worker trust.
Lily was not abandoned by one man. She had been traded between two.
Nathan demanded private discussion.
Ruth answered, “Privacy already protected every man in this story.”
The court ordered ordinary paternity proceedings without granting Nathan control of the trust or Lily.
Then the wedding photographer raised a hand.

His camera had captured Grant passing an envelope to Nathan before the ceremony.
Inside the envelope was a one-way ticket for Daniel.
