Six months later, Vincent testified against his own company and resigned as chairman.

The Callahan hotels repaid stolen wages, funded legal aid for displaced families, and gave elected worker representatives seats on the board.

Judge Hale lost his robe.

Daniel and Celeste faced trial.

Rosa refused the mansion and moved with Ava into a quiet house near her school.

At the first rebuilt hotel gala, cooks, housekeepers, drivers, and dishwashers entered through the main doors while former executives waited in the service line.

Ava wore the same cream dress, cleaned and repaired.

When reporters called her the “poor girl who inherited an empire,” she corrected them.

“My mother worked. We were never worthless.”

Vincent gave her Michael’s ring, but Ava placed it beside a scholarship fund for hotel workers’ children.

Then a federal agent arrived carrying a sealed box recovered from Judge Hale’s office.

Inside were twenty-three custody files involving other low-income families.

Ava looked at Rosa, then at Vincent.
