Chapter 5 - THE CHARITY QUEEN’S BRACELET.

Celeste immediately blamed Rosa for staging the broadcast.

She chaired a national charity for low-income children and had built her reputation posing beside families she would never invite into her home.

“She is using a frightened child to extort us,” Celeste announced.

Ava stared at the diamond bracelet on Celeste’s wrist.

“That was in the room where they held my mom.”

Celeste covered it with her hand.

Ava explained that one stone had fallen out when Celeste grabbed her beside the laundry elevators.

Vincent ordered a guard to inspect the service corridor.

He returned with a loose emerald that fit the empty setting perfectly.

Guests who had praised Celeste’s compassion began recording her panic on their phones.

Celeste insisted she had gone downstairs only to calm Rosa.

Ava shook her head.

“You told her poor women lose children every day, and nobody important notices.”

Vincent’s guards unlocked the basement door.

The room was empty.

On a chair sat Rosa’s torn employee badge and a signed confession stating she had stolen from the Callahans.

The signature was dated tomorrow.
