Chapter 1 - THE GREY POWDER.
The Sterling family nursery was a modern fortress of glass and steel, completely isolated from the rest of the luxurious US mansion.
To Clara, a young woman in her late twenties wearing professional office attire, this room was the only safe place in a house that hated her.
She had married into generational wealth, but her working-class background made her a constant target for her husband's elite family.
She rushed through the heavy smart-lock doors after a long day at the corporate office, desperate to hold her baby.
In the background, little Leo was safely asleep in his secure, modern crib, wearing a soft full onesie.
But Clara’s maternal instinct immediately screamed that something was terribly wrong in the silent room.
Standing near the changing table was Agnes, the family’s senior nanny.
The older woman wore a dark grey caregiver uniform and bore a perpetually cruel expression.
Agnes did not notice Clara enter.
The nanny was secretly pouring a mysterious, unauthorized grey powder into Leo’s high-tech smart baby bottle.
Clara’s heart seized in her chest.
Without a second thought, the young mother rushed across the room and immediately snatched the smart bottle away from the changing table.
Agnes did not apologize or look ashamed.
Instead, the cruel nanny stepped aggressively into the mother's personal space.
She raised her hand to physically intimidate Clara, stopping her palm mere inches from the young mother's face.
The older woman looked down at Clara with absolute classist disgust.
“I am just preparing the formula. Are you out of your mind?” Agnes spat, her voice loud and crisp.
Clara refused to back down, her grip on the bottle tightening.
