Heavy metal security shutters instantly slammed down over the large nursery windows, completely blocking out the afternoon sun.
The heavy smart door locked with a loud, absolute mechanical click.
The nanny froze in terror, realizing she was entirely trapped inside the room with the evidence.
Clara immediately moved backward, standing protectively in front of the crib.
She glared at the older woman, her body shielding her sleeping baby.
Agnes's arrogant facade crumbled into sheer panic.
She desperately pulled a smartphone from her grey uniform pocket to call her wealthy employers for help.
The screen flashed brightly in the dim room, displaying an incoming-call graphic.
The caller identification had a completely blank profile picture.
However, a specific, eerie custom ringtone began playing from the device.
Clara recognized the melody instantly, and her eyes widened in absolute shock.
Her blood ran cold as she stared at the nanny's glowing phone screen.
