THE TOXIN IN THE CRIB / Chapter 6 / 10

Chapter 6 - THE PRIVATE ARMY.

The afternoon sun poured back into the nursery, blinding Clara for a moment.

Through the reinforced glass, she saw three black helicopters hovering over the estate's sprawling lawn.

They did not bear police markings.

They belonged to private corporate security contractors descending onto the roof.

Julian’s family was not waiting for the local authorities. They were sending their own forces to silence her.

“You think a little public scandal can stop the Sterling family?” Julian laughed through the intercom.

“We own the media networks. Tomorrow, the headlines will say you suffered a psychotic break and hacked the system.”

Agnes sat up on the floor, cradling her wrist and grinning maliciously.

“You are just a working-class nobody. You never had a chance.”

Clara looked back at the crib.

Leo was still sleeping peacefully, entirely unaware of the war being waged for his future.

She needed a fail-safe—something money and private security could not erase.

She grabbed the smart bottle and unscrewed the magnetic LED base.

Inside the advanced hardware was a physical memory drive storing the unalterable chemical analysis.

She removed the small drive and slipped it inside the lining of Leo's onesie.

A loud crash shook the room as the private security team breached the upstairs hallway.

They were using a heavy battering ram against the nursery door.

The reinforced steel dented inward with a terrifying thud.

Clara stood her ground, refusing to show fear in front of the cruel nanny.

Suddenly, the room's AI voice spoke again, but the tone was entirely different.
