Chapter 8 - THE HIDDEN COMPARTMENT.

Clara knelt on the pristine hardwood floor.
Beneath the changing table, a small biometric safe had been cleverly integrated into the wood paneling.
The safe was partially open, its green indicator light blinking slowly.
Agnes had been in such a rush to tamper with the baby’s formula that she had failed to secure her hidden supply.
“Agent Harris, look at this,” Clara called.
The federal agent knelt beside her and pulled on a pair of blue latex gloves.
He carefully opened the concealed drawer.
Inside were dozens of vials filled with the same mysterious grey powder, alongside several burner phones.
But what caught Clara’s attention was a thick, leather-bound ledger.
Harris opened the ledger, and his professional composure faltered for a moment.
“These are wire-transfer receipts,” he said.
The ledger detailed millions of dollars moving from the Sterling family trust into offshore accounts.
Agnes wasn't merely a cruel nanny. She was a highly paid operative who had secretly targeted multiple family members over the years.
She had been systematically removing any heirs who threatened the matriarch's absolute control.
Julian was dragged past the open door in handcuffs, shouting at his mother's lawyer.
“I didn't do it! It was the nanny! She acted alone!” Julian cried, desperately sacrificing Agnes to save himself.
Agnes stopped struggling against the agents and stared at Julian with pure hatred.
“You spineless coward,” she spat.
The nanny turned her head toward Agent Harris.
“I want full immunity. I can give you the names of every judge and doctor they bought.”
Harris smiled thinly.

“You don't get to negotiate. But we will gladly take your statement.”
As the agents escorted Agnes away, Clara's personal smartphone suddenly regained cellular service.
