Chapter 4 - THE LETTERS THEY CALLED CONFUSION.
Naomi appeared by secure video, alert and furious. She had written Eleanor every month for six years. Cross Residential returned each envelope as evidence of confusion.
Eleanor did not hide behind age or deception.
“I trusted a private doctor because his lobby looked expensive. You trusted me, and I failed you.”
Naomi’s voice remained steady. “Wealthy families call abandonment a medical decision when someone else is locked in the room.”
The court froze every Cross Residential property transfer. Naomi’s bungalow had not yet been resold, but the company had rented it at luxury rates while charging her for care.
David offered to purchase it back.
“No,” Naomi said. “Return it. Do not turn restitution into another rich man’s gift.”
Carter found Eleanor’s signature on three other admissions. Each resident had worked for the Hale family.
Eleanor surrendered her covenant vote pending review.
Then Naomi lifted one returned letter.
“Thomas knew this would happen. He mailed me a second will after his death.”
