Chapter 7 - THE POLICY ON HIS FATHER’S LIFE.
David insisted he had never signed anything involving his father’s death. Carter replayed the full recording.
Thomas was discussing a life-insurance restructuring. David had authorized a policy that paid the Hale company, not Eleanor, if Thomas died before the worker covenant became public.
David remembered approving a stack of emergency financing forms during a company crisis.
“You insured your father like an asset,” Naomi said.
“I did not know the beneficiary had changed.”
“You knew enough to enjoy the loan it secured.”
David requested criminal review of his own signature and refused Vanessa’s attempt to blame a junior analyst.
The insurance proceeds had funded Cross Residential’s expansion. Thomas’s death was natural, but the family had profited from it while hiding his covenant.
Carter opened Thomas’s private medical file. Someone had delayed informing Eleanor of his final hospitalization until after the policy activated.
The authorization came from Vanessa.
But the hospital call log showed Eleanor had been notified.
