Chapter 1 - THE CONFESSION BESIDE THE HOUSEKEEPING CART.
Ethan crossed the marble lobby with Victoria on his arm while wealthy guests watched them arrive for the Caldwell Foundation gala.
Maya pushed a housekeeping cart from the opposite hallway.
When she saw Ethan, she stopped and pressed one hand against her pregnant belly.
“Maya… what happened? Why are you here?”
Her eyes filled.
“I tried to tell you, but I was never allowed to reach you.”
Victoria tightened her grip on Ethan.
“She’s lying. Don’t listen to her.”
Ethan removed Victoria’s hand and stepped toward the cart.
Maya forced herself to meet his eyes.
“The baby is yours. They made sure you would never know.”
The lobby fell silent.
Victoria’s confidence collapsed.
Then a folded hotel memo slipped from Maya’s cart. It ordered security to block every call, letter and visit from her.
The authorization carried Victoria’s signature.
