Victoria admitted arranging the encounter because she believed public rejection would destroy Maya’s credibility before the trust hearing.
She expected Ethan to call security.
Instead, he listened.
“You thought my shame would be stronger than her evidence,” Ethan said.
Victoria answered, “Your family survives because people like her know when to leave.”
Maya’s voice hardened.
“My father kept this hotel warm while your guests slept. Do not call us outsiders inside walls our wages saved.”
Ethan ended the engagement and surrendered his executive authority pending investigation.
Eleanor called him weak.
He replied, “Inheritance made me comfortable. It did not make me qualified.”
Federal auditors froze the Caldwell Foundation and discovered that employee pension deductions had paid for the ballroom renovation, Victoria’s charity events and Eleanor’s private aircraft.
Then HR director Daniel Price asked for protection.
He had followed Eleanor’s orders to isolate Maya.
